OURENSE VINIS TERRAE, Salón del Vino y Licores Gallegos de Calidad, opened this morning in Expourense the doors of its 8th edition, already positioned as a business center that is facilitating the exit abroad or the entry into new international markets of 50 wineries in Galicia (most of them “colleiteiros”, SMEs or medium-sized companies) belonging to the 5 denominations of origin of wine in the community (Ribeiro, Monterrei, Valdeorras, Ribeira Sacra and Rías Baixas), to that of Augardentes e Licores Tradicionais and also to the IXP Val do Miño and Ribeiras do Morrazo. The show has the presence of fifty importers and buyers from 14 countries who come to this event interested in Galician wine that draws their attention for its excellence and its identity with the territory, since they are made with native grapes, which that makes them different and unique wines.

Ourense Vinis Terrae has the strong support of the Ourense Provincial Council and the Xunta de Galicia through the Galician Agency for Food Quality (AGACAL) attached to the Department of Rural Affairs. The official opening ceremony of this edition included the intervention of the president of the Ourense Provincial Council, Manuel Baltar, who highlighted the weight of the wine sector in this province, which has four of the five designations of origin of Galicia (Ribeiro, Monterrei, Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras) and stressed the importance of public-private cooperation to carry out this type of projects that contribute to the internationalization of companies. Also taking part in this event was the territorial delegate of the Xunta de Galicia in Ourense, Marisol Díaz Mouteira, who recalled that Galicia has 458 wineries and more than 16,000 winegrowers and mentioned the different lines of help from the Galician government for viticulture; and the president of CRDO Ribeiro, director of EVEGA and president of the advisory committee of Ourense Vinis Terrae, Juan Manuel Casares, who pointed out that this event “is a business opportunity for all the attendees and a showcase of all the good things that are happening. doing in the wine sector in Galicia “.

This show is putting 50 wineries in direct contact with importers from 14 countries (Canada, China, Colombia, Spain, United States, Martinique Island-France, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Russia, Switzerland) . Ourense VINIS TERRAE has thus become an internationalization tool at the service of small and medium-sized Galician companies, facilitating export to markets that would be more difficult to access through the usual channels. During this first day of the show, more than 500 business appointments have already been held.

Excellence and identity with the territory are the two main features of the offer that the participating Galician wineries will present at this event. The importers that participate in Ourense Vinis Terrae know that they will find exclusively Galician wines that are the result of an indigenous and unique varietal heritage. Treixadura, Godello, Albariño, Mencía or Sousón are terms that are already part of the usual vocabulary of these international companies that seek to incorporate new wines to offer to their customers in their countries of origin.

Business appointments at the fair are complemented by an on-site visit to the wineries of the five wine regulating councils of Galicia. Yesterday they visited the Ribeiro and for this afternoon a visit to the Ribeira Sacra and Valdeorras wineries is scheduled. During the morning session they will visit Rías Baixas and on Wednesday, once the fair is over, they will visit Monterrei.

Activity program Ourense Vinis Terrae has a complete program of activities aimed at promoting the quality of wines and spirits and the native grape varieties of Galicia. In addition to learning about the latest harvests from Galician wineries, professionals from the wine, distribution and hospitality sectors who visit Ourense Vinis Terrae have the opportunity to participate in any of the planned activities.

In this program of activities, the Wine Tunnel stands out, a showcase that offers visitors and exhibitors a space in which 120 references from all the denominations of origin of Galicia are exposed. The objective is that professionals can get to know the different wines present and, in this way, buyers have the possibility of knowing a greater number of references, in addition to those they are already meeting through their appointment schedule.

This morning the first of the practical workshops on Galician white wines was given by the EVEGA (Galician Viticulture and Oenology Station) which dealt with “Positive descriptors in white wines. New attribute recognition processes ”. Some thirty winegrowers, oenologists and laboratory technicians participated in it.

During this first day two of the four commented tastings were also given in which the white wines, red wines awarded with the “Acios de Ouro” and the liquors and spirits awarded with the “Pot of Gold and Silver” in the official Tastings were analyzed. of Galicia 2018.
